Lactation consults

Initial home consult (up to 2 hours)

Initial home consults begin by identifying your concerns and goals regarding lactation, infant feeding, postpartum recovery and healing, and the transition to life with a new baby. Your goals will determine the overall shape and direction of the visit.

Initial consults also include a feeding and medical history, breast exam, infant oral-functional exam, and feeding assessment that includes pre- and post-feeding infant weights. We will identify your main breastfeeding and lactation concerns and goals, and develop a plan that works for you and for your baby. You get one week of additional support via phone, text, or email, and we will schedule follow-up consults as needed.

Follow-up consult (1-2 hours)

Breastfeeding and lactation challenges can be complex, and most new parents and babies benefit from ongoing support. That’s where follow-up visits come in. We will review any changes and developments that have cropped up, continue to practice skills, and change course as needed. These consults are reserved for folks who have already had an initial home visit.

Telehealth consult (1 hour)

Telehealth consults are a great option in situations where you have questions or concerns but an in-person visit is not essential, desired, and/or feasible. Please contact me to determine if a telehealth consult is likely to meet your needs.

Prenatal consult (1 hour)

Your baby isn't here yet but you'd like to prepare for breastfeeding. Great idea! We will review the basics of lactation and breastfeeding, answer your questions, and, if relevant, talk about any past breastfeeding experiences that didn’t go as planned. Get confident, get excited, get ready.
