Insurance coverage for lactation care

The Affordable Care Act requires insurance companies to cover breastfeeding and lactation support by a trained provider. That said, insurance plans differ in what services they will actually cover (how many visits, whether the provider needs to be in-network, how much they will reimburse you for appointments with out-of-network providers, etc.).

I strongly encourage you to contact your insurance provider(s) and ask them what their policy is regarding breastfeeding and lactation care. I have resources to help you navigate this process confidently and assertively. You and your baby are entitled to comprehensive support and I want your insurance company to pay for it.
